Welcome

Are you struggling with low mood, loss of confidence, stress or anxiety? Have there been difficulties related to trauma or a major life change that has left you feeling distressed or feeling like you don’t know which way to turn?

I understand how approaching therapy can feel difficult and daunting. I am passionate about providing a warm, compassionate, safe space to talk and to explore your issues. I believe it’s important for you to feel valued, respected and supported through therapy. I aim to work collaboratively with you in a sensitive,  yet pragmatic way to work together on taking steps towards meaningful change.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is founded on the understanding that our thoughts, feelings and behaviour are all connected. When you feel low or anxious you may notice yourself falling into a pattern of thinking and responding, which can ultimately leave you feeling worse. CBT works with you to gain awareness of these unhelpful patterns and find alternative ways of coping.

CBT is a collaborative therapy where I work together with you towards mutually agreed goals. CBT aims to give you the skills and practical tools learnt in therapy to become your own therapist and manage difficulties in a healthier way. CBT aims to empower you by emphasising practice of home tasks outside of the therapy session to get the most out of the therapy process. These will be agreed between us and planned carefully together in each session.

CBT has a strong evidence base and is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) for the treatment of depression and many anxiety disorders.

CBT can be completed on its own or in conjunction with medication prescribed by a GP or doctor. This can depend on the difficulty CBT is helping with and personal choice.

Can CBT help me?

Perhaps you're feeling down, stressed or anxious - maybe you're being self critical, have lost confidence or just feel that you aren't living the life you were meant to lead. Whatever it might be I am here to offer support.

Therapy is a process of self discovery to recognise how you can take steps to learn the skills and tools needed in order to improve your confidence in overcoming your difficulties.

Every person's individual experience is different and I will work with you to create a shared understanding of your needs.

Some examples of the areas I can help with are:

  • Depression

  • Pre / Post Natal Depression

  • Low Self Esteem / Confidence issues

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

  • Stress / Burnout

  • Generalised Anxiety Disorder

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

  • Body Dysmorphic Disorder

  • Specific Phobias

  • Health Anxiety

  • Social Anxiety

  • Panic Disorder / Agoraphobia

Whilst a diagnosis or an understanding of your difficulty can be helpful, it is not necessary to begin therapy.
